Hop in your Way Back Machine and set the dial toward 1997. Prince's Emancipation, an ambitious 3-disc set (that doesn't quite add up to the sum of its parts, regrettably), was released a few months prior, and controversy swirled around Prince's use of the "symbol" as his name (you can type it in as O(+>), incidentally), referring to himself verbally as the infamous "Artist Formerly Known as Prince," or, affectionately, TAFKAP (I use it affectionately, anyway). While it was much easier for people to mock the name change than it was to consider the motivations behind it, Prince himself didn't take the proceedings as seriously as his critics may have hoped. Case in point:

The best part is the opening, but the Muppets joining Prince on Sign o' the Times' "Starfish and Coffee," a song ripe with sexual metaphor, is a little bit of brilliance.
