Joe Strummer lyrics

Per Sam's request, the following few posts are lyrics to some of our tunes. Enjoy.

----------
JOE STRUMMER

I went down to Arkansas, but I couldn't stand the heat
So I went west to San Antone to finally admit defeat
Headed East to Austin and I ended up with you
And as far as prettier faces go, darlin', there's so few

and I might not be no Joe Strummer but I'm working on that band
gonna find myself a drummer that'll take you by the hand
and I might not be no Elvis Costello, but I'm trying day by day
I know I'm not the nicest fellow, but I mean everything I say

Headed up to Kansas where the mountains just aren't there
All I could see were rolling plains and a horizon far too bare
And I threw pebbles at your window and ten o'clock at night
Gave your phone a final ring, but you didn't see the light

And I might not be no Tom Waits but I'm working on that sound
Need a bassman that won't hyperventilate when he sees you in the crowd
and I'm not no Jeff Tweedy although the drummer's now been found
This whole scene's so damn greedy is the only single sound

And I might not be no Jay Farrar and I know that things are rough
But we don't get very far standing there in the buff
and I'm not no Gary Louris but I'm trying the best I can
to do the best things for us, although you might not understand

that I'm not an Elvis Costello, but I'm working it day by day
I know I'm not the nicest fellow, but I mean everything I say
