4th and 30 lyrics

I’m sitting in a pie shop on the other side of town
Got half a tank of gas outside, I’m not sure why I’m feeling so down
I see a waiter playing grabass and hovering around the bar
He’s been there for an hour now, not sure he’s gonna get very far

I wish that you and I could share my booth, two straws in one chocolate shake
Three days since I’ve been with you, not sure how much more I can take
Tabasco sauce has a safety seal, and my water is half-gone
Kinda reminds me about us and it’s fast approaching dawn

So I drove in 4th at 30 miles an hour to try to see you again
Car wouldn’t start, windows were jammed, and the door was all that let me in
Radio too loud when I turned the key and my stomach had been growling all day
So I figured a plate of biscuits and gravy would make me forget
About all the hurtful things you’d say

The cherry pie sounds pretty good as my eyes wandered around
They offered me a slice for free, but like you I turned a good thing down
Their supply of whipping cream was slim and my scones were far too sweet
Perhaps my time is over now, maybe I should admit defeat

But I think I’ve got a fighting chance, although my luck turns on a dime
Been counting down a hundred days and it’s such a damn long time
Waitress making eyes at me all night and I’m tempted to just give in
But you haven’t really left me yet, and infidelity is a mortal sin

So I drove in 4th at 30 miles an hour to try to see you again
Car wouldn’t start, windows were jammed, and the door was all that let me in
Radio too loud when I turned the key and my stomach had been growling all day
So I figured a plate of biscuits and gravy would make me forget
About all the hurtful things you’d say
